9th Annual Great Salt Lake Bird Festival
May 17 - 22, 2007
Great Salt Lakes, Utah
"I was able to go to the Great Salt Lake Bird Festival(2006)
for the past few days. The festival was wonderful! I saw
great birds, met wonderful people from all over the country
(and Canada ), added lifers to my list, and learned many
new birding and digiscoping skills...I am looking forward
to the next one." Buck Russell |

The 2007 Planning Committee is working hard to bring
you another fantastic Bird Festival. The program booklet
should be on-line and mailed the first part of February
2007. Registration begins March 1, 2007 at 8 am.
When we offered field trips and workshops for the first
Great Salt Lake Bird Festival in 1999, we knew we had
all of the right ingredients. Most notable are the large
numbers of birds that migrate north. Another key ingredient
is access to bird viewing areas. Through many partnerships
with private property owners and conservation groups
Great Salt Lake Bird Festival has obtained “Behind-the-Gates”
access to areas the general public cannot go. Some of
these areas include Kennecott’s Inland Sea Shorebird
Reserve, Audubon’s Gillmor Sanctuary, Ambassador Duck
Club, Bear River NWR, and Deseret Ranch. The Utah Department
of Wildlife Resources has cooperated to open Hardware
Ranch, Farmington Bay , Ogden Bay , and Howard Slough
to special tours also. Viewing access is always available
from The Nature Conservancy’s Great Salt Lake Shorelands
Preserve. Antelope Island State Park is a key partner
also. Antelope Island and Davis County Causeway are
where you can truly experience the waters of Great Salt
Lake . The private concessionaires on the Island offer
birding access to the south part of the Island in a
DUCK or on horseback and in the water by kayak, sailboats or cruise
boat.
We have expanded visitor bird viewing access to the
greater Great Salt Lake ecosystem- to the Idaho and
Wyoming borders, Wasatch Mountains , Cache Valley ,
and Utah Valley . With such diverse habitats, you should
be able to see the bird species northern Utah has to
offer.
One of the most important ingredients for success is
our people. The planning committee works hard to provide
a variety of birding experiences - something for everyone.
We think our guides are the best you can find anywhere,
they are knowledgeable, very experienced, have local
knowledge, and as an added bonus, they are nice.
Great Salt Lake Bird Festival is backed up by great
lodging facilities and restaurants in our local area.
Davis County also has other wonderful attractions, besides
birds.
This is a recipe for success! Come to Utah and enjoy
what Great Salt Lake Bird Festival has to offer.
