26th Annual John Scharf Migratory Bird Festival
April 13 - 15, 2007
Burns, Oregon

Spend an amazing weekend witnessing the spectacular spring migration in the Harney Basin of Southeast Oregon. View thousands of migratory birds as they rest and feed in the wide open spaces of Oregon's high desert. From waterfowl to shorebirds, cranes to raptors, wading birds to songbirds, you'll see it all!

The festival offers non-stop birding activities as well as historical and cultural information sure to entertain you and your family. So whether you're a beginner or a life-long wildlife enthusiast, the festival has something for everyone.

Commemorative Poster Artist - Rene Eisenbart
Rene Eisenbart has been an illustrator for The Oregonian for 23 years. Her work appears in the Home & Garden section every Thursday.
Her work tends to be realistic but she likes to think of it being more of an elegant caricature. "I try to take some liberty with artistic impression while staying true to my subject."

FRIDAY NIGHT SPEAKER - "Fluff & Feathers.......more than meets the eye". Presented by Trish Nixon, The World Center for Birds of Prey
Trish Nixon, Raptor Specialist for the Peregrine Fund’s World Center for Birds of Prey in Boise, Idaho will lead us on an exploration of the many types of feathers on every bird of prey...down, contours, filoplumes and semiplumes, primary and secondary feathers, etc.

SATURDAY NIGHT FLAMINGO FLING AND KEYNOTE SPEAKER
"Ecology of the Caribbean Flamingo in Yucatan, Mexico--Using Science for Successful Conservation"
Guy Baldassare, State University of New York in Syracuse.
Over the last 15 years, Guy has been conducting research on Caribbean Flamingos in the Yucatan. He will detail how research has helped guide conservation efforts for flamingos and their habitats in Yucatan, Mexico.

Author John Rakestraw will be at this year’s Flamingo Fling to sign copies of his new book “Birding Oregon: 44 Prime Birding Areas with More Than 200 Specific Sites” by Falcon Press. The 44 chapters in Birding Oregon describe over 200 birding sites, and include samples from all the major ecoregions in Oregon. All sites listed in the book offer consistently good birding, are located on public land or on land open to the birding public, and are accessible in a normal passenger car.
